Have you ever heard of the law of G.O.Y.A? (Get Off Your Ass)

It encourages you to take action, to stop procrastinating, and actively pursue your goals or tasks. It emphasizes the importance of taking initiative and not waiting for things to happen passively to you.

The idea behind “Get off your ass” is to overcome inertia and overcome any obstacles or excuses that may be preventing your progress. It promotes self-discipline, determination, and a proactive mindset. By applying this principle, we are encouraged to stop making excuses, get started, and make meaningful progress toward our objectives.

For many years now I have had a dream of becoming an author. However, despite my enthusiasm, I find myself constantly stuck in a cycle of procrastination and self-doubt. Can you relate?

One day, while browsing the internet for inspiration, I stumbled upon an article titled “The Law of G.O.Y.A.: Get off your ass and make it happen.” The words struck a chord with me, resonating deeply within. I realized I had been waiting for the perfect moment, the right inspiration, and a guarantee of success. But the truth is, I needed to take action and stop making excuses. Motivated by the idea of “Get off your ass,” I made a decision. I would dedicate myself to writing newsletters each week – based on personal stories in which I had learnt lessons and gained insights. No matter how challenging or uncertain the journey might be I was committed. I set specific goals and created a schedule, committing to a certain number of words each day( I don’t always follow that, that’s for sure.)

The initial days were tough. Doubts and distractions crept in, but I reminded myself of the importance of taking initiative. I pushed through the resistance and found solace in the routine I had established. This goes for anything in your life – create a routine. As weeks turned into months, my determination grew stronger. I discovered that the more I wrote, the more the creative juices flowed. I learned to silence my inner critic(although I still have my doubts when people unsubscribe) and embrace imperfections as part of the process. Whenever self-doubt threatens to hold me back, I remind myself, “Get off your ass, Trev. This is your dream, and you have the power to make it a reality.”

I still have no idea how the book is going to come to pass, but I believe this is part of the process and I need to keep the faith and keep writing.

Hopefully, in small part, I can be an example of what could be accomplished when one takes action and refuses to let fear or excuses hold you back.

We need to understand that success requires more than just dreams and wishes; it DEMANDS action and unwavering determination. And so I hope this encourages you to get off your own ass and make your dreams a reality — Just start, no matter how small it is. Just start!

Bravery is not the absence of fear, no, it is acting in spite of fear.

“What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?” – Vincent Van Gogh.

In your day, be courageous, confident, and curious.
